I am raising funds for my friend Shadi who is stuck in Gaza and his family who have evacuated to Egypt. Shadi’s son has a congenital heart defect and requires surgery to survive. His wife has barely enough funds to feed the children and herself and Shadi must still raise funds to cover his own evacuation when the border crossings open. Please give whatever you can to help this family survive and get medical care!

Campaign update – December 2024

Shadi’s 3 year old son Mohammed is scheduled for surgery on December 17th to address ongoing issues related to a congenital heart defect. He will need to raise over $15,000 for this surgery or it will be postponed. Little Mohammed is a rascally boy whose favorite color is green. He loves to play with his older siblings but has been unable to enjoy his life as a young child because of the heart problems which leave him short of breath and experiencing chest pain. The malnutrition and stress of surviving the genocide have worsened Mohammed’s heart condition and he urgently needs surgery.

Mohammed was born with transposition of the right arteries in the left and the left in the right. He also has an enlarged heart and a narrowing of the pulmonary artery. He underwent two surgeries, one in the hospital Tel Hashomer is in the occupied interior and another in Egypt. He needs another surgery in Egypt.

Please help Shadi raise the funds needed for his son’s surgery!

More of Shadi’s story in his own words here: I am Shadi Abu Rida from Gaza. I want to tell you my story. It all started after October 7th. It was like the last sunrise for us. We did not know what tragedy and suffering awaited us. On Sunday night, the fear began when we received calls from the occupation army to evacuate our house and our area. I still remember the sadness and fear on the faces of my family and children, the fear that the worst would happen to us. I was very worried about my children and wife.

That was our first displacement. We headed towards the city of Bani Suhaila to one of our family friends. After spending two days, the occupation army called us again. We panicked when I heard a voice on my phone saying that the house and the area were exposed to shelling and we had less than half an hour to evacuate and get out of the area. We left the house as quickly as we could. I still remember the columns of smoke rising from one of the houses near us after we had walked a few miles. We were heading into the unknown. We had no idea what a bitter reality awaited us. Then we headed to an UNRWA school for shelter near Nasser Hospital, we built a simple tent behind the school because the school was overcrowded with displaced people, I still remember the suffering of the cold and rain in our tent, we faced very difficult times, and I also remember waiting in front of the bakeries to buy bread for my family, I used to wait my turn for 8 hours, I go at night to take a turn to buy bread for my children and family, and the time I spent in the flour queue.

The suffering and pain is that I have a child with a congenital heart defect, I was watching my child slip away from me, I could not do anything for him, it was very painful, my child needs open heart surgery for the second time after he had surgery in January 2021 This was our life until that day in January when I heard a voice from the sky, there were small planes broadcasting voice messages from the Israeli occupation army, the residents had to leave. We did not want to evacuate the area as there was nowhere to go but we had no choice as they would destroy the whole place and we would not survive the random shelling and tanks. We evacuated the area through the occupation checkpoints, they were shooting above us, my little brothers were crying all the way until we reached the Mawasi area near Rafah and then we moved to an area in Rafah near the Waves Hall. At that time we had nothing, no tent, no clothes, nothing else. This was our fourth displacement in a few months.

A few months after our last displacement, the army entered Rafah. We were displaced again to the regional area in Khan Yunis. We evacuated the area after the army dropped leaflets to evacuate the area and called us. We evacuated, leaving everything behind us. The displacement in the regional area did not last more than a month. After that, the flies entered the regional area. We miraculously escaped the shelling and fire, leaving everything behind. It was very terrifying. We were displaced again for the sixth time to the Bani Suhaila area after the army withdrew from it. Less than two weeks later, the army asked us to evacuate the area and called us. We were displaced to the Mawasi area, leaving everything. We miraculously escaped the shelling and went to the sea. This displacement continued for several days. It was the seventh time in less than two weeks.

In the same month, after the army withdrew, we returned to Bani Suhaila again. Two weeks after the seventh displacement, we woke up from sleep to a call from the army asking us to evacuate immediately. It was terrifying and frightening to hear that. We hung up the call a few minutes later and the area began to be hit with shells and missiles. We saw the bombing. We were fleeing and the bombing was in front of us. It was very terrifying and frightening. We were displaced for the eighth time to the Khan Yunis area near Al-Aqsa University. We left everything behind us. We took nothing. We walked on foot until we reached the safe area at night. We slept in the open. They were very terrifying days. The army operation continued for nine days. After the army withdrew, we returned to Bani Suhaila. Two weeks later, we were displaced again after the army asked us to evacuate the area. That was an era when the scenes of displacement were painful and frightening, children and women running in fear of the bombing, people running and wanting to take nothing with them, just a bag, and now we are still suffering from displacement. Staying in Gaza is very difficult, I cannot wait a whole year until things improve, our only chance is to leave through Egyptian coordination, and the cost per person is $5,600. Shadi is a lawyer and a man of law. The war has destroyed his future and the future of his family, and his educational and professional plans have completely changed. Your donations will help him support the future of Palestine. He hopes to be able to help rebuild his country and make it a beautiful place again.

My child is still receiving regular treatment, thanks to God and then to donations and support from charitable people and friends. Many thanks to everyone who donated and helped cover my child’s treatment and my family’s expenses in Egypt. Yesterday, I was surprised that my wife was exposed for the first time The second stroke in months in the face is also in need of treatment and healthcare. We need all of you to donate and help cover the treatment of my child and wife.

Regarding the suffering we are experiencing in Gaza, the situation has been catastrophic and tragic for months due to the famine we are experiencing and due to the looting and theft of aid before it reaches us inside Gaza. The bombing is continuing at a very intense pace and displacement has recently begun Rents are gradually declining, so we urge you to donate and help so that we can provide food, supplies, and flour.

From the bottom of my heart, a huge thank you to everyone who contributed to and supported my campaign.

In the darkest times, amidst the devastation of life, you were an unquenchable light.

To everyone who donated, stood by us, supported my family and children in Egypt, and helped cover the treatment of my son, daughter, and wife, and supported and assisted me and the rest of my family, my brothers, sisters, their children, and my parents in Gaza, we can only express our deep gratitude. You were the support when support was scarce, and the hope when it was lost.

Your donations were not just numbers… They were food in times of hunger, medicine in times of sickness, and blankets on harsh nights merciless by the cold and war.

But the pain is not over, and the suffering worsens day by day.

Our children still go to bed without food, thousands are homeless, and hope is fading without someone to nourish it with their donations.

We write to you today, not to renew our appeal, but to remind you that you are part of our story… our story of survival. You are not just donors; you are partners in humanity, protectors of the vulnerable in times of need.

Follow us… your presence makes a difference.

Be the support we need, the pulse that keeps us alive.

Thanks to you, we cling to hope… and rise from the rubble.

Our need grows daily, and your donation today makes a difference and gives us strength in our most difficult moments.
